Paddle Challenge – 27th May
SCC at Penrith Whitewater Stadium
Over the weekend 3 of our members participated in training camps at Penrith Whitewater Stadium. Alexandria and Jack Choate worked their slalom skills and Demi O’Brien got into a downriver boat on the course for the first time. We hope to give more juniors more opportunities like this in the future!

This course is designed for people who are new to kayaking. It will provide information on:
What to wear when kayaking
Safety awareness when kayaking
Different types of kayak design
Different types fo paddles
It will provide instruction on how to:
Determine the correct length of a paddle
Hold a paddle
Life and carry a kayak
Get in and out of a kayak
Launch and land a kayak
Adopt the correct sitting position while kayaking
Raft up with other kayakers
Turn a kayak
Stop a kayaking in an emergency
Use the paddle to brace to help prevent a capsize
Manoeuvre the kayak sideways
Capsize and self-rescue.
Paddle Dogs Australia was Created by Robert Mcintyre, Alex Mcintyre and Courtney Epps, to promote the sport of kayaking. They have launched a range of clothing that follows their belief in sustainable practices and they are definitely worth a look. You can find them by the link below.
They also have a series of blogs and information surrounding training camps and other paddling opportunities on whitewater. At the moment the majority of these training camps are over east, however, we are working to create better opportunities for WA paddlers, so keep an eye on the website or look them up on social media.
Swan Canoe Club Forum
We created a forum for Swan paddlers to get in touch with each other. This can be used for any kind of paddling event, whether you want to go for a quick paddle in the morning or organise a big event.
