White Water Courses

Due to the lack of rain the white water courses scheduled for June have been postponed.

I will contact the members who are interested in the courses when we have sufficient water in the river.

Social paddle on the Swan then bbq !!

We’re planning another social paddle, on the 9th of July. This time we’ll meet at the bottom of Katanning Road in Bayswater at 0900. There’s barbeques here, so we’ll get on the water about 9.30am, paddle approx 3kmup the river, enjoying the parkland we paddle through, and look at the riverside mansions …. well maybe not mansions, it’s not Peppy Grove or Mosman Park, but there’s still some houses I wouldn’t knock back ! We’ll stop for a brief toilet pause/snack/stretch, then head back down the river for a barbie or picnic. BYO whatever you fancy, or there will be some snags & rolls for a gold coin donation.

All boats are fine for this trip, it’s on flat water although there will be some passing boat traffic so you should be comnfortable in swell such as the Point Walter paddle with the Rotto ferry going past. You must be wearing footwear, and PFDs are strongly recommended. Bring a dry thermal and warm clothes, sunnies, sunscreen, hat. Depending on the weather, a windproof may be a good idea. You should have completed an Intro to Kayaking course or similar, or be a known paddler.

Please, register with me prior to the event so I have an idea of numbers attending, an email is ideal with the boat you’ll be paddling, car rego and contact details. Contact details jenniferhouston@optusnet.com.au, or 0403 502 584.

Fundraising screening of Ten Canoes on Sunday July 16 at Luna SX

Advance Notice! Swan Canoe Club invites members and friends to a special, cross-cultural paddling event!

A fundraising screening of Ten Canoes on Sunday July 16 at Luna SX, Fremantle, 4.15 to 4.45pm drinks/nibbles (for 4.50pm film start).

Rolf de Heer's Ten Canoes won the special jury prize at this yearÕs Cannes Film Festival. The film, starring the Yolngu people of Ramingining, is the first full-length Australian feature film made entirely in an Indigenous language. The movie is set in tribal times and spins an enchanting tale of a young man who covets one of the wives of his older brother. The film shows people paddling on the beautiful Arafura Swamp in Central Arnhem Land.

This film may sell out so presale tickets are a must. Tickets are $14, $12(conc).
To book your tickets contact Maggie maggieo@bigblue.net.au 93353931

The 3 people who sell the most tickets win a dinner to AnnaÕs Bistro, Mosman Park.
To be in the running register your numbers sold with maggieo@bigblue.net.au before 5pm Wed July 12.
Money will go to a new dunny for our clubrooms.

Upper Murrey Cancelled

Sorry everyone, there just isn’t enough water in the Murrey to make it worth the drive down or a pleasant paddle.

So we’ve cancelled the Upper Murrey trip, the next scheduled white water trip remains the Walyunga to Bells trip scheduled for the 1st of July.

Depending on water levels, we’ll leave this one as planned, however any changes will be advised as soon as confirmed.

Come join the new social committee – date changed to June 27

Our first social committee meeting for the new club year will be on Tuesday June 27 at 7.30pm, upstairs in the clubrooms.

This is a great way to meet other members and to get involved with your club. Bring a plate to share.

New members welcome.
