FIRST AID TRAINING
The club is looking at organising a First Aid Training course should we be able to get enough
interest from members. It is in the club's (and your) best interests to have as many people with first aid training and qualifications as possible - don't just leave it to the instructors.
The course would be run by club member Keith Emin and you would get a recognised Senior First Aid qualification.
The proposal is to run a Royal Life Saving Society course that can be tailored to meet the needs of kayakers.
The Senior First Aid certificate from Royal Life Saving is recognised as a pre-requisite for employment by the
WA Department of Police and meets the Level 2 - Workplace First Aid standard as determined by WorkSafe (Western Australia).
The course duration is 16 hours and we need ten people to make it viable.  The cost is $120 to attend. At this stage we are
asking for expressions of interest.  We aren't asking for a committment, just an expression of interest.
If enough people are interested then we will work out the details of the logistical arrangements.
So if you are interested please contact Glenn Rogers on glenn@strategicachievement.com.au or 0418 908 555.

JUST ADD WATER

Channel 9's "Just Add Water" program which features white water paddling and rafting will be broadcast this weekend.

Canoeing WA arranged the program with Channel 9 which was shot at Bells Rapids and

Walyunga National Park in July with the help of our local paddlers and rafters.

See our local paddlers shooting the rapids, rafting and doing Slalom.

It is on Sunday 5 February, 7.30 - 8.30 pm on Channel 9.
COMING EVENTS
Friday Night Paddle Bash Returns - Starts 3 Feb 06 A fun social night for paddlers of all levels.   A time trial paddle followed by a BBQ dinner ($4 - meat and salads provided). Social paddlers, don't be put off by the time trial.  This is a fun night.  Its not about winning a race (at least not for most of us), its about joining in and having some fun.  Points are given for beating your own personal best times.   And to you meat heads who just want to get in the water and paddle as fast as you can (and miss out on all
the great scenery) don't be put off by the social aspect of the night - get out there and slap each other round with your paddles.
Prizes are awarded at the end of the season. Be ready to rumble from about 6 pm. More details here.
Saturday Morning Paddles to Point Walter – On Going
A great pastime for many members is to have a Saturday morning paddle followed by Coffee/Tea/Muffins/Cakes/
Breakfast/Fruit Salad (had to throw that one in and sound health conscious) at the Point Walter Cafe
(they have tables permantly reserved for us).

Most people paddle from the Club (or some other entry point) from around 9.30 – 10 and there's usually someone
at table 64 from about 10.30 am.  Come and go as you please.  Head straight over to the sand bar or do a
3 km, 6 km or 12 km paddle, whatever you like.
For new members we will have another guided paddle very soon – watch this space.
If you haven't paddled across the river before (it can be very rough with large ferry wash), or are not so confident paddling
on your own please wait for a guided paddle, which will be led by a qualified instructor.
